CALGARY, Alberta – May 21, 2026 – WeMaple confirmed that principal photography commenced on December 15, 2025 for WeMaple Special Presentation Part I, a documentary production authorized under Alberta’s Film and Television Tax Credit (FTTC) Program through the province’s Jobs, Economy, Trade and Innovation division.
The production qualifies under Alberta’s 30 percent Alberta-owned production stream and is being produced in accordance with the Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office (CAVCO) documentary framework. Based on current estimated eligible Alberta production expenditures of approximately $471,000, WeMaple Special Presentation Part I is projected to qualify for approximately $141,350 in refundable Alberta FTTC tax credits. In addition, the production is expected to qualify for approximately $68,100 in federal CAVCO-related tax credit incentives tied to eligible Canadian production expenditures. The production has been structured through a public/private financing model involving private sector Brand Partners alongside federal Canadian screen-based production incentives.
A growing roster of Brand Partnership Agreements confirmed for WeMaple Special Presentation Part I includes Fusion Collegiate, Source Geothermal, Canadian Gas Association, First Nations Power Authority, Pacific Northern Gas, Enbridge, KD Professional, and AutoTrust Stettler. Participating organizations are contributing industry access, subject matter expertise, and production support relevant to the documentary’s broader exploration of Alberta’s evolving energy, infrastructure, and innovation landscape. As with many documentary productions, participating contributors and interview subjects provide perspectives, technical insight, and access to projects, communities, and initiatives featured throughout the production.
“We are grateful for the continued participation and support from organizations contributing to the production,” said WeMaple Executive Producer Matt Keay. “This project reflects the continued growth of Alberta’s documentary and screen-based production industry and demonstrates how public and private sector participation can support the development of Canadian storytelling. With 17 completed documentary film and television projects and a strong production track record, our team remains focused on delivering a production that meets the expectations of audiences, partners, and industry stakeholders.”
The production is supported by a distribution agreement with Telus, executed in the name of the applicant company. WeMaple has also engaged a distribution consultant to pursue additional digital, festival, broadcast, and international distribution opportunities following completion of the production.
